Barack vs. Beard

Reading an article on Barack Obama this morning showed me we have a lot in common. First of all we are both surprisingly attractive for our professions, him a politician, me in the sports media. We also both rode the pine for State Championship winning teams in High School. Now I just need to start talking like Barack.

Running is so hard

Hank Steinbrenner can't stand pitchers running the bases. He thinks the National League should "join the 21st century." Oh no Hank, for 18 games a season (11%) another one of your players has to be an athlete. The most they're going to have to run is 360 feet. Almost anyone on earth can do that, even bloggers. How often does a player get injured running the bases? Would you be crying if Jeter or Cano got hurt while rounding 3rd? You realize its running, right Boss Jr? Maybe you are the one who needs to grow up.

Good Guys Still Around

This past weekend the sports world learned a valuable lesson, good guys can still be good players. Rocco Mediate left everything he had on the Torrey Pines South Course, and he certainly left without any regrets. Many people didn't believe him on Sunday night when he said he knew Tiger would make the birdie putt on 18, and that he never roots for a golfer to miss a shot. He proved them wrong on Monday. As Tiger hit a putt to win on the first hole of sudden-death, Rocco was leaning on the shoulder of his caddy, and was mouthing "drop, drop." He wanted Tiger to make a great putt. And there's nothing wrong with that.
